Queanbeyan Lions ClubOrdinary people doing extraordinary things - supporting people with a disability, community greening, fundraising for worthwhile causes. The Lions Club of Queanbeyan is a community service club incorporated under the banner of Lions Club International. It is a not-for-profit organisation that is comprised of volunteers to take an active interest in all manner of community welfare, with a particular interst charaties. We are the LionsThe Lions Club of Queanbeyan was formed in 1957, and is one of the nine Lions clubs in the Canberra region. Membership is open to men and women over the age of 18. We currently have 24 members. The Lions Club of Queanbeyan warmly welcomes people of Cultural and Linguisticly Diverse backgrounds, and appreciates the diversity of ideas and experience members of a variety of cultures can provide. We meet the needs of our local communities and the world. Fund raising is undertaken to support such organisations such as The Eden/Monaro Cancer Support Group, Queanbeyan Childrens Special Needs Group, Hearing Dogs, Prostate Cancer Research and many more. In a typical year $45 000 is raised and donated to many charaties. Lions Internation is comprised of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more. The Lions Club of Queanbeyan supports the Outward Bound Movement and several youths from local High Schools are sponsored into the course at Namadgee National Park each year. typical fundraising for Lions of Queanbeyan consists of additional established fund raising events each year such as the Burra Open Garden Weekend, Lions Christmas Cake sales, a series of Country Music concerts through out the year, and BBQ and sausage sizzle activities at various venues. Join us in making our communities and the world better places to live. Becoming a LionLions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health and education needs worldwide. The social aspect of the Club is highly valued, and Dinner Meetings are enjoyed twice monthly at the Queanbeyan Bowling Club. It is the aim of the Queanbeyan Lions to support the fellowship at the fundrising events is also important, and along with the knowledge that much more can be achieved for our community by work together, rahter than as individuals, which provides much greater level of satisfaction to our members. |
